Installing the Express Damp Proofing System in a Sheffield Property

Overview

This project took place in Sheffield where the existing plaster had become contaminated with salts due to rising damp. The homeowner needed a fast, clean and reliable solution, making it an ideal candidate for the Express Damp Proofing System. Originally designed by Safeguard Europe and adapted by All Dry Damp Proofing, this method provides an efficient and effective approach to treating low level damp.

The Problem

The affected walls showed clear signs of dampness and salt contamination, meaning the existing plaster could no longer be saved. Part of the wall was also situated below ground level, adding extra pressure from moisture within the surrounding soil. A full system was required to isolate the contaminated areas, install a new damp proof course and create a stable, dry surface ready for finishing.

Our Solution

We began by removing the contaminated plaster up to 300mm above the last recorded signs of moisture. A new damp proof course was installed by drilling and injecting the masonry, ensuring a continuous barrier to protect against rising damp. The wall was then treated with Dryshield, a salt neutralising cream that prevents contamination from migrating into the new finish.

Once the masonry was prepared, we fixed a suitably sized plasterboard using Drygrip, a waterproof adhesive designed specifically for this system. The boards were skimmed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding plasterwork, leaving a smooth and durable finish. Because part of the wall was below ground level, we applied NatCem 35, a premixed waterproof render that sets rapidly and provides robust protection in areas under extra moisture pressure.

The Result

The Express Damp Proofing System delivered a clean, fast and highly effective solution. The finished wall is now dry, stable and ready for decoration, with full protection against rising damp and salt contamination. This system remains one of the quickest and most reliable options for treating low level damp in occupied homes.
