Classic signs of rising damp
This property was showing textbook rising damp: blackened, blown plaster along the skirting line, damp staining creeping up the walls, and visible mould at the base of several rooms.
The original damp proof course had failed, allowing moisture to track up through the brickwork and into the internal plaster.
Stripped back to brick for a clear picture
Our team stripped the affected plaster back to brick to fully assess the damage. Once exposed, the brickwork confirmed rising damp with no effective barrier in place.

A new injected DPC and salt-neutralising plaster
We installed a new chemical damp proof course by injection along the affected walls, using DryZone damp-proofing cream to create a consistent, long-lasting barrier against rising moisture.
Once the new DPC was in place and the wall allowed to begin drying, we applied a specialist salt-neutralising renovation plaster. This step is essential: it stops residual salts left behind by years of damp from breaking down the new plaster finish.
Why the plaster matters
Injecting a new damp proof course is only half the job. Years of rising damp leave hygroscopic salts behind in the wall, and if the old plaster is simply skimmed over, those salts draw in moisture and the staining and blowing return.
The salt-neutralising renovation plaster creates a clean barrier between the wall and the finished surface, so the repair lasts and the wall is ready to take paint or wallpaper properly.
